Houston’s Eureka Heights Brewery launched its own hard seltzer. As of Monday, March 8, it is officially “open for fizzness”. Called Fizzy Pants, the fun new spiked and sparkling line represents a major expansion for the brewery.
The craft beer makers have been working on the seltzer since at least August of 2020, when trademark filings were submitted to the US Patent & Trademark Office (USTPO).
Eureka Heights is introducing Fizzy Pants in 4 flavors: Grapefruit, Watermelon, Peach, and Strawberry. Each can contains 100 calories, 2 grams of carbs, and zero sugar. It is available in a Rad variety 12 pack.
Eureka is hoping to make a splash with Fizzy Pants. “These puppies will be released to the market with some pretty high ambitions to claw out the competitors,” the brewery said in an Instagram post, perhaps referencing a particularly famous competitor.
The Pants want a piece of the Claw’s action. “As we all know, hard seltzer first came to the United States in 1797 when Augustus Witclaw III immigrated from the island of Fyre. Then some other stuff happened, which brings us to today,” the company teased in the social media post announcing its release.
“Eureka Heights Brewing Company was forged in the dark depths of the Eureka Heights fault line and the hellfire of Houston summer,” the company says on its website.
“Once emerged we spent years on a spirit quest that guy at the gas station recommended. Then we decided we wanted to make some beer.”
The brewery borrowed its name from the fault system that runs under the facility. “The fault was important during the development of Houston and even has a railroad tower named after it, and we’re pretty sure we don’t need to tell choo how awesome we feel about that,” according to Eureka.
The company prides itself on making “interesting, approachable beer. Our year round beers are always crisp, flavorful and (mostly) low alcohol. We also have seasonal stouts, because that wasn’t a thing and we thought it should be.”
Texas has become a hotbed of hard seltzer over the last year. Shiner released its own Straight Shooter hard seltzer last summer. The Lone Star State’s oldest craft brewery, Saint Arnold
, appears to be exploring its own spiked and sparkling release as well. Craft seltzer makers like Mighty Swell and Blue Norther are popular options in the Austin area.
Ranch Water, a regional favorite cocktail native to Texas, is also gaining traction in the RTD space. It’s grown so popular that Heineken is poised to release Dos Equis Ranch Water
next month, and Lone River Ranch Water was acquired this week by Diageo.
Eureka’s new release comes just in time for Q2
, when beer category sales traditionally see a bump. For the last few years, hard seltzer has occupied a bigger and bigger segment of this category. In other words, Fizzy Pants is hitting store shelves just as consumers will be looking to buy more convenient, portable summer beverages – and these fizzy flavors are ready for summer.
Fizzy Pants is currently available all over the Houston area.
