Chicago’s own Monaco Cocktails are expanding their distribution footprint. The spirit based, ready-to-drink (RTD) canned cocktails are coming soon to a variety of major grocery store chains.
Parent company Atomic Brands
announced that its new variety six pack will be coming to a variety of new locations. The variety pack contains three of Monaco’s best selling cocktails – Citrus Rush, Tequila Lime Crush, and Blue Crush.
Citrus Rush is described as mixing “vodka with an energy drink taste, but without the caffeine,” according to the beverage company. The drink uses Monaco’s own vodka, which has been distilled six times. Monaco Vodka is also available for purchase for those who prefer to mix their own cocktails.
Tequila Lime Crush, the company’s take on a classic margarita, combines tequila with “hints of grapefruit.” And the Blue Crush, reminiscent of a Blue Hawaiian, mixes vodka, gin, rum, and tequila.
Other flavors, which are available in single serve cans, include Black Raspberry, Cranberry, Mango Peach, Purple Crush, and Tropical Rush.
Chicagoans will now be able to find the locally made RTDs at Binny’s Beverage Depot, Jewel-Osco, Mariano’s, and Tony’s Finer Foods. Additionally, the cocktails are coming to Roundy’s in Wisconsin, Albertsons in Southern California, and Winco Foods in California, Arizona, Indiana, and Nevada.
“We’re so excited to bring our variety six-pack to grocery stores across the country, and heighten access for Monaco Cocktails in the supermarket channel,” said Don Deubler, chief executive officer of Atomic Brands.
“As consumers are looking for more real spirit canned cocktails, our best-selling varieties deliver a perfectly premixed flavor experience in a convenient and affordable format.”
The growth for Monaco’s cocktails is evidence of the brand’s leading position in the RTD market, as one of the pioneer’s of the category. The company uses “high-quality ingredients to provide a unique craft and artisan cocktail experience in the convenience and accessibility of sustainable beverage cans.” Monaco’s proprietary vodka is 80 proof and gluten free.
The Chicago based Atomic Brands was first founded in 2006, and introduced Monaco in 2012. The premium, spirit based RTDs boast “two shots” of spirits, and contain 9% ABV per can.
How does a standard size can contain two shots of liquor but only 9% ABV? Hard Seltzer News asked Monaco the same question, but the request for comment was not immediately answered. Perhaps they mean that each 12 oz can contains around twice the alcohol of the average hard seltzer, which clocks in around 4.5% ABV.
The expansion is exciting news for Monaco as well as RTD fans. For those looking for lighter options, the company recently released the cheekily named Monaco 69, a low calorie addition to the canned cocktail line. Each can contains – you guessed it – 69 calories. They also boast no sugar nor carbs and are made with real vodka.
Monaco 69 are available in Black Cherry Berry, Lemon Splash, and Red Razz Berry. Will a Monaco 69 variety pack be the next to hit the market?
