A new kind of spiked seltzer is gaining steam in the marketplace. Hard seltzer has a new competitor – let’s call it “special” seltzer.
As more states legalize recreational marijuana for adult use, cannabis beverages are increasingly aiming to disrupt the alcohol market – including the new Wynk – a new seltzer that is infused with equal amounts of THC and CBD.
Since products containing THC are still technically illegal at the federal level, the distribution model gets a little complicated; interstate commerce is not technically allowed. Yet the team behind Wynk has found an innovative way around that technicality – a co-manufacturing plant on wheels.
Rather than building processing plants in each state, Wynk built a mobile plant that they can drive from legal state to legal state.
Wynk was co-founded by Casey Parzych, Angus Rittenburg, and Shawn Sheehan. The team was driven to find a way to work around the “big production hurdle caused by the patchwork legality of the cannabis industry,” according to a press release announcing the product launch.
The answer came in the form of the “Wynk Wagon,” a custom built 18 wheeler which produces the company’s special seltzer on site.
“The idea for the truck came from looking at the business challenge from an engineering perspective,” said Parzych.
“We saw the hurdles that existed for processors, so we’re giving them a unique way to offer their customers a THC seltzer, in an efficient, cost-effective way. It’s highly relevant now, given the lack of national legalization. As an added bonus, we’re committed to spending the marketing dollars necessary to create a standout national brand in order to bring new consumers into the space.”
Last year, the trio behind Wynk began to notice declining consumer interest in alcohol consumption, while the curiosity around legalized cannabis is getting higher. Sensing an opportunity in the sparkling water marketplace, they set out to find a way to get their products into the hands (and mouths) of consumers.
“We’ve made the capital investment to create a pain-free manufacturing experience for processors,” said Rittenburg.
“We bring a lean team of experts and engineers with the truck to oversee the process of creating Wynk in states where cannabis is legal. When we partner with local processors who provide the cannabis and distributors who help us get product to dispensaries within those states.”
Wynk is available in three different varieties made with all-natural flavors – Black Cherry Fizz, Juicy Mango, and Lime Twist. Each 8.4 oz can contains a microdose of 2.5 mg of THC and 2.5 mg of CBD.
It takes around 20 minutes for Wynk’s “special effects” to kick in, and you can expect the relaxing results to last for about 90 minutes. Designed to help you unwind, one of Wynk’s biggest appeals is the lack of accompanying hangover the next day.
With more states legalizing recreational marijuana for adult use, the special seltzer segment is a potentially expanding space. We’ll be watching Wynk truckin’ on this summer.
