announced the release of its new ready-to-drink (RTD) cannabis infused seltzer.

Artet was the first non-alcoholic yet cannabis infused aperitif. In addition to marijuana, it is made with a blend of eight different botanicals “that work in harmony to make Artet delicious on the rocks, intriguing when mixed, and always enjoyed in good company,” according to the company’s website.

Released in 2019, Artet is the creation of cousins Xander Shepherd, Zachary Spohler, and Maxwell Spohler. The new cannabis infused RTD marks the company’s first expansion.

The cannabis based RTD is available in two initial flavors: Rosemary Jane and Tet & Tonic, both of which contain a 5 mg microdose of THC and CBD.

Rosemary Jane’s taste is described as “zesty, refreshing, and elegantly sessionable with the warming notes of Artet working in harmony alongside a blend of Italian grapefruit juice, young rosemary simple syrup, and sparkling water.”

Meant to mimic a gin & tonic, in Tet & Tonic “the juniper, gentian, and cardamom botanicals of Artet are paired beautifully with a custom chamomile-infused tonic and a squeeze of lemon.”

“We started Artet with a belief that a delicious drink doesn’t have to begin with alcohol,” said Zach Spohler, co-founder of Artet.

“With a year under our belt of pouring beverages and working with our creative community of at-home and professional mixologists, we’ve canned two of our favorite Artet mixed drinks which each have a balanced five mg dose of THC and CBD to mimic the relaxed, yet social elements of aperitivo culture.”

A recent study by Grand View Research predicted that the cannabis beverage market will reach $2.8 billion by 2025. As more states continue to legalize recreational marijuana, the demand for sophisticated yet non-alcoholic beverages is growing. Cannabis beverage sales have doubled in California alone over the last year.

Both Rosemary Jane and Tet & Tonic are currently available at select dispensaries in San Francisco and Los Angeles. You can purchase a single can for $6 or a four pack for $20. Artet hopes to expand its distribution to other parts of California soon.

As Bob Dylan once sang, “the times, they are a-changing,” and in the US marijuana’s time has come; the era of cannabis prohibition is inching to a close. In an attempt to recognize and correct what it calls “the mistakes of the War on Drugs,” Artet has dedicated a part of its profits to “fighting the injustice of the past.”

The company stated that they are “humbled to be a part of a new era of legal cannabis consumption, and yet, we recognize the privileged position we occupy in doing so.”

“We acknowledge the many persons in the United States who have been subjected to wrongful convictions or unfair sentencing due to non-violent crimes relating to cannabis,” said Artet. As a result, each quarter the company donates 2.5 percent of its revenue to organizations committed to fighting for racial justice.

The Wall Street Journal famously published an article

titled “Pot Companies Scrambling for Cash,” about the decline in marijuana stocks, noting in the 2019 piece, “For investors in cannabis stocks already nursing heavy losses, the cash shortage is more bad news.”  Industry advocate WeedWeek’s article in August 2020 suggested that “while demand for legal marijuana is expected to remain steady or continue to increase, the days of the green rush are over, or perhaps temporarily put on hold.”

As the first of its kind on the market, we are anxious to see where Artet takes the canna-beverage industry next.
