Blue Marble Productions announced production in its new 181,000-square-foot, state of the art hard seltzer canning facility. The Indianapolis, Indiana, plant is scheduled to begin copacking for brands later this month.

Blue Marble develops and cans product for some of the biggest hard and soft beverage brands in the world. As the hard seltzer industry struggles to keep up with consumer demand, the announcement represents significant growth for Blue Marble.

The company plans to fill a significant gap in domestic production via its new plant. Blue Marble will even offer its larger clients wanting a guaranteed production time the opportunity to purchase one of its production lines outright.

Blue Marble Productions, Inc. is a subsidiary of  Blue Marble Cocktails, Inc., which makes its own RTD cocktails and vodka seltzers, in addition to “co-packing and private labeling sparkling fruit juices, kombuchas, vitamin wellness drinks, canned waters, and other spirit based seltzers.”

Founder and CEO Alan Miller had the foresight to begin investing in the new facility at the end of 2019. According to the company, the plant will be “capable of delivering over 450 million cans with plans to expand and scale future production capacity to exceed over one billion cans in 2021.”

“We started with a clean slate and would not accept status quo on how facilities were designed or operated,” said Miller. “Now, we are making the natural next step towards being an industry leader in co-packing and product development. Expanding our footprint allows us to build another state-of-the-art production facility with plans for six lines and increasing our services and capabilities to include in-line sleeving, in-house microbiology, analytical testing, bulk liquid and ingredient storage, warehousing, and full 3PL services.”

Additionally, Blue Marble plans to expand its alcohol production by adding malt beverage and wine packaging capabilities. “We are in an aggressive growth mode with the expertise, facility capabilities, and the room to scale at a time when the industry demand has truly outgrown its current canning capacity. While others are converting existing lines to stay relevant, we are building for the future,” said Miller.

The relatively new category of hard seltzer (including spritzers and RTDs) is exploding with new options, all increasing demand on supply. New brands depend on private labeling in the absence of production facilities for hard seltzer.

In addition to producing its own line of Blue Marble RTDs and hard seltzers, the company offers R&D and private label services to startups in the hard seltzer category.
