Bold Rock is expanding its hard seltzer portfolio with the release of its new spiked and sparkling lemonade. Building off of the success of its original hard seltzer, which was released last year, the company continues to innovate in the rapidly growing seltzer segment.
With several new high profile offerings recently hitting store shelves, sparkling hard lemonade made up 10% of the seltzer market at the start of the year, according to IRI data. Bold Rock, a member of the Artisanal Brewing Ventures portfolio, is excited to enter that space with its craft lemonade hard seltzer.
“This segment really took off in 2020 with one national brand achieving substantial share of the category and now other big brands are entering and blazing the trail in terms of consumer education and awareness. But, we believe this segment is very aligned to the ethos of what Bold Rock stands for as a brand,” said Derek Detenber, Artisanal Brewing Ventures’ chief marketing officer.
“It’s a drink that exemplifies fun, being together, and sharing good times,” Detenber said in a statement. “Something we all need in 2021. Our fans know and love us for our commitment to refreshing, approachable, quality driven flavors and with this latest innovation, we invite Bold Rockers to once again ‘Make the Bold Choice.'”
Since the start of the year Bud Light Seltzer and Mike’s Hard Lemonade have both released highly anticipated spiked and sparkling lemonades. Vizzy also announced its own lemonade seltzer, which, like the original, will contain the antioxidant vitamin C.
The new Bold Rock expansion will initially be available in Blackberry Lemonade Seltzer, Blood Orange Lemonade Seltzer, Strawberry Lemonade Seltzer and Original Lemonade Seltzer. Each flavor contains 1 gram of sugar, 3 grams of carbs, 100 calories, and 5% ABV.
Founded in 2012, Bold Rock has locations in Virginia and North Carolina. Its flagship hard cider is made with tart Granny Smith apples grown in the Blue Ridge Mountains. It also comes in innovative flavors like Blackberry, Pineapple and Sangria.
Bold Rock launched its original hard seltzer in 2020, and it is also available in four fruity flavors: Berry, Cucumber Melon, Grapefruit, and Passion Fruit. The beverage company also has an emerging line of ready-to-drink (RTD) canned craft cocktails, which includes Vodka Soda Lime, Copper Mug Mule, and the whiskey-based Bold Fashioned.
Additionally, Bold Rock makes more traditional hard iced tea and lemonade, without the sparkle. These also contain 5% ABV and are made with real tea and lemons.
With so many new hard lemonades hitting the market, and seasonal temperatures just starting to creep up, the spiked and sparkling citrus drinks are sure to be a major trend for spring and summer. Hard lemonade seltzer is formulated to be ideal for the boat or beach — a portable session beverage for socially distant summer gatherings.
Bold Rock’s Hard Lemonade Seltzer will be available in variety 12-packs starting this March. The company’s distribution footprint currently includes Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware, Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Ohio, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine, Illinois, Michigan, Kentucky and Washington DC.
