Baseball fans are in high gear with the season underway and a 162-game schedule promised, but this year there’s a new reason to celebrate. Cutwater Spirits is expanding its line of ready-to-drink (RTD) co-branded cocktails to six MLB teams, featuring the teams’ official logos and trademarks.
Major league baseball teams with new co-branded cans include the Arizona Diamondbacks, Atlanta Braves, New York Yankees, St. Louis Cardinals, Washington Nationals, and the brand’s hometown San Diego Padres.
The limited edition products all feature Cutwater’s popular Vodka Mule, with a bonus Tequila Paloma for the Padres. The Vodka Mule is their take on the Moscow Mule, made with Cutwater vodka, house-made ginger beer, and lime. These effervescent Vodka Mules contain 7% ABV.
Cutwater began its partnership with the MLB via co-branded RTDs for the neighboring Padres.
The San Diego-based company re-released four packs of the Padres Vodka Mule, and a variety 12-pack featuring both cocktails in local markets.
Fans of these six teams, plus the Cincinnati Reds and New York Mets, will notice that the brand also has an expanded presence in their stadiums this season.
“As a die-hard baseball fan, I could not be more excited for Cutwater to be a part of the return to a more normal MLB season this year,” says Earl Kight, co-founder and head of sales for Cutwater Spirits, in a statement.
“I’ll be stocking up on our Padres Vodka Mules and Palomas to support my hometown team,” said Kight. “The fact that folks all over the country will also be able to represent their favorite teams with a great-tasting canned cocktail in hand is truly a dream come true.”
As part of a clever campaign, Cutwater teamed up with the Padres’ Wil Myers to encourage fans to break from their regular routine and “Cut Out for Baseball.” The campaign was inspired by last year’s baseball season, which saw fans replaced by cardboard cutouts of themselves in stadium seats as the pandemic rendered in-person viewing unsafe.
This year, Cutwater is sending 200 lucky fans and front office staff personalized cardboard cutouts to take their places while they themselves “cut out for baseball.” Your cardboard cutout can fill in on your afternoon Zoom calls as you cut out to take in a baseball game.
Cutwater is a fantastic fit for MLB games, and we are excited to see this partnership expanding within the league. With Cutwater as an option, fans are assured an expertly mixed, premium cocktail while enjoying America’s past time.
Its aluminum cans are safe for stadium consumption, and pre-packaged drinks offer unlike this Chicago Cubs fan who famously caught one in her draft beer in 2015. While it may be a cool party trick, it’s not the safest option in light of the global pandemic with which we’re all dealing.
Opening Day took on an even bigger role this year, as fans cautiously step back into ballparks, albeit in smaller numbers. We’re excited to have Cutwater canned cocktails along for the ride.
