Dragon's Share Seltzer

Get ready for something new to hit the hard seltzer scene – Dragons. New Holland Brewing Company announced the release of its new bourbon barrel aged hard seltzer, Dragon’s Share.

“We are so proud of the entire team that brought Dragon’s Share to life,” said Dominick Berquist, brand manager for New Holland Brewing Company. “This project started as the ultimate ‘what if..?’, and as we tasted trial after trial, we knew we were on to something special.”

The unique hard seltzer builds off the popularity of the Michigan-based brewery’s Dragon’s Milk barrel aged hard stout. The seltzer is freshly brewed, and then aged in recently vacated bourbon barrels. As a result, the drink features notes of both the oak of the barrel and the warmth of the bourbon.

Widely considered to be New Holland’s most popular product, the 11% ABV Dragon’s Milk is transformed during its three months of barrel aging. The stout features notes of vanilla, chocolate, and of course bourbon. The new spiked and sparkling Dragon’s Share follows the same model while leaning into the seltzer craze.

“The original Dragon’s Milk stout was brewed for the barrel and designed to completely transform during the time it spends in oak, and Dragon’s Share Bourbon Barrel Seltzer is no different,” Berquist said.

“It would absolutely be easier to just add bourbon to water, but we really believe that the time in those barrels gives the seltzer such a unique and delicious flavor profile that we wouldn’t do it any other way.”

Dragon’s Share will be available in a variety 12-pack featuring four flavors: Blackberry, Cherry, Orange, and Original. Each can contains 90 calories and, at 4.6% ABV, it is considerably more sessionable than its stout cousin.

In the ready-to-drink (RTD) family, New Holland also produces Lake Life, a vodka spiked seltzer handmade with its own house-distilled premium vodka of the same name. Containing 82 calories, 0 grams of sugar, and 4% ABV, Lake Life comes in Cherry Lemonade, Cranberry Lime, Lakeshore Berry, Pineapple, and White Peach Honey.

New Holland also sells stronger premium canned cocktails, clocking in at 9% ABV. You can enjoy a premade Holland Mule, Blueberry Gin Lemonade, Rum Punch, or Blackberry Bramble while spending the day on Lake Michigan.

The brewery was founded in 1997 when Brett VanderKamp decided that his hometown was due for something new. Before the beverage company was founded, the town was best known for its annual tulip festival.

Indeed, New Holland released a limited edition Tulip Time Knickerbocker Gin to commemorate this year’s event. The bottles feature the Dutch illustration style of Delft and are now available for pre-order (but must be picked up in New Holland or Grand Rapids).

Truly a sign of the times, New Holland also sells its own house-made hand sanitizer and accessories on its website, which is a great way to support small businesses while staying sanitary.

We can’t wait to dance with the dragon and try New Holland’s unique seltzer, infused with the warm, woody taste of a bourbon barrel.
