Your favorite college beer Natty Light is bringing a new kind of seltzer to market. Get ready for sour seltzer.
Natural Light Sour Seltzer will be sold in a variety 12-pack featuring four sour flavors: No Capple Green Apple, Razzle Dazzle Blue Raspberry, Rind & Dined Watermelon, and Slice for What Lemon.
It weighs in at a slightly above average 6% ABV. Rind & Dined Watermelon will also be available in a 25 oz. tallboy can.
“As a brand that prides itself on standing out in the crowd, Natty Sour Seltzer is sure to make a splash in the world of seltzer.” said Daniel Blake, Vice President of Marketing for the US Value Portfolio at Anheuser-Busch.
“Natty strives to be at the forefront of innovation, and while Sour Seltzer is already our fifth innovation this year, I can promise we’re just getting started,” said Blake.
Available for a limited time only, the new sour seltzers join the Natty Light family of boozy bubbly water, joining flavors Aloha Beaches (Mango Peach), Catalina Lime Mixer (Black Cherry Lime), House Rules (Strawberry Kiwi), and Zest I Ever Had (Strawberry Lemonade). The vintage beer brand first debuted its hard seltzer spinoff in 2019.
Spiked & Sparkling Sour Seltzer Sounds Sensational
Natty Light’s new sour seltzers are sure to strike a nostalgic chord with millennials; the tangy new flavors are reminiscent of the ultra sour Warheads candies.
In fact, the candy company introduced its own craft seltzer earlier in the year through a collaboration with New York’s Artisanal Brew Works. The “Extreme Sour” spiked and sparkling drinks contained 5% ABV and were available in 16 oz. tallboys.
The extremely limited edition drinks – which went hugely viral – were available in four packs featuring one can each of Warheads favorites Black Cherry, Blue Raspberry, Watermelon, and of course Lemon.
Based on the popularity of the limited Warheads collab, it is good news for us all that Natty Light Sour Seltzer will have a much wider distribution footprint.
The sour segment is new to the spiked and sparkling space, and its bold and tangy flavors are sure to be a hit this summer.
Natural Light is Top Ten Selling Beer
Introduced by Anheuser-Busch (NYSE: BUD) in 1977, Natural Light was the brewer’s first reduced calorie beer. Fueled by college kids everywhere, it is currently the nation’s sixth best selling beer.
The company has been teasing consumers with the promise of a Natty Light sour seltzer since late 2020, thanks to filings they made with the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau. Hard Seltzer News first reported on the expansion in March.
Other Natty Innovations
In addition to the new sour seltzer, a new flavor of Naturdays also recently hit the market. The kitschy light lager is currently available in two flavors – the original Strawberry Lemonade, with Pineapple Lemonade recently joining the family.
“Naturdays was created for spending time with your friends and being there for unforgettable memories. Following the success of Naturdays Strawberry Lemonade, we wanted to continue the momentum by adding a refreshing, tropical variety to the Naturdays family,” said Blake.
Naturdays Frozen Icicles launched nationwide recently in two flavors, strawberry lemonade and pineapple lemonade, just in time for the hot summer months. The 2 ounce packages contain 8% ABV and are sold in mixed 12 packs.
“We are just getting started in this space and continue to find new ways to connect with our consumers in new formats and occasions,” said Rob Clark, Head of Innovation at Anheuser-Busch, in a LinkedIn post.
We’re excited to see what new flavors Natty Light and Naturdays come up with next.
