Sonic Drive-In restaurants will not sell hard seltzer, in spite of releasing the branded beverage alcohol on May 18 at retail outlets. Initial distribution is limited to certain Oklahoma retailers, including Casey’s, Costco, Homeland, Reasor’s, Sprout’s, Target, Walmart, and Whole Foods.

The company recently honored public school teachers by donating $1.5 million for learning supplies across the country, and offering a free large drink or slush to teachers during the first week of May. Teacher Appreciation Day was May 4.

Sonic Hard Seltzer will be introduced to Texas, Nebraska, Arkansas, Kansas, and Missouri retail outlets in August.

With an aggressive initial release in 8 flavors the new hard seltzer is 5% ABV, 100 calories, and has natural flavors.

The Citrus variety pack contains Lemon Berry, Classic Lemonade, Original Limeade, and Cherry Limeade, in reference to the restaurant chain’s iconic beverage.

The Tropical variety pack includes Orange Pineapple, Mango Guava, Ocean Water, and Melon Medley.

Oklahoma craft beer brewer COOP Ale Works was contracted to produce the hard seltzers under the Sonic name. COOP Ale Works originally focused on ales and lagers, but introduced Will & Wiley hard seltzer last year. Will & Wiley is currently offered in Cherry Lime, Mango Guava, Pineapple, and Grapefruit.

SONIC, founded in 1953, has over 3,500 restaurants in 46 states, and is part of the Inspire Brands family of restaurants.
