The iconic cocktail brand Collins is expanding its portfolio with the launch of a new cocktail seltzer. With the introduction of Collins Cocktail Seltzer, the company aims to define a new subcategory within the hard seltzer space.

The line is set to launch in two weeks, Hard Seltzer News has learned. Initial distribution will include Illinois and Wisconsin.  Collins worked with expert bartenders in order to craft their ready-to-drink (RTD) sparkling canned cocktails, which will be introduced in three flavors: Margarita, Pina Colada, and Strawberry Daiquiri. The cocktail seltzers will be sold in both single flavor and variety six packs.

Each of the Collins Cocktail Seltzers contain 120 calories and 5% ABV. Packaged in 12 ounce slim cans, they’re sweetened with real fruit juice, and are low in both sugar and carbs and contain no artificial ingredients.  The result is a Margarita seltzer that actually tastes like a margarita.

Collins’ History of True Brands

The family owned cocktail company was founded in 1934, following the repeal of prohibition. The company began its empire with “a simple bottle of grenadine and a beer key.”

“When it came to making a hard seltzer, we leaned on our tried and true approach of using real ingredients and working with bartenders to come up with the best tasting drinks possible,” a company spokesperson explained.

“We poured every ounce of our 87 years of cocktail wisdom right into a can to make refreshing, effervescent cocktails available with just the pop of a top.”

For over 80 years, its mission has been to elevate the at-home cocktail experience. In addition to the new line of seltzers, Collins proudly crafts cocktail mixers, syrups, garnishes, and kits to help consumers become the ultimate home bartenders.

“Collins has always found a way to innovate cocktails at home, and over this past year we’ve felt a need to do so even more,” says brand manager Tatyana Dolgaya with True Brands.

“We’re not stepping into this market to become just another hard seltzer, we’re introducing people to the Cocktail Seltzer, a way to effortlessly enjoy their favorite cocktails at home. When you reach for a Collins Cocktail Seltzer this summer it’ll be like you’re ordering from a great bartender.”

Collins’ line includes 22 different cocktail mixers, ranging from classics like the Margarita and Mai Tai to the Hurricane and Cosmopolitan – and yes, there is even a Tom Collins mix. Its garnishes include several different varieties of sweet cherries and savory olives. The company also still sells its original grenadine, in addition to lavender syrup and a variety of simple syrups.

The Second City will have the pleasure of getting to try Collins Cocktail Seltzer first. The Chicago based company will first debut its new seltzer locally, before expanding to additional midwestern and national markets.

Billing itself as the “first Cocktail Seltzer that actually tastes like a cocktail,” we’re excited to see what Collins has in store for the RTD segment. “There’s no sense in chasing a trend,” the cocktail company says, “when you can elevate it.”

Collins’ website also teases two additional flavors  – the tropical Hurricane (a mix of passion fruit and lemon) and the classic Moscow Mule. More flavors will soon follow. Will a Collins’ Tom Collins be the next to market?
