RancH2O recently announced the fourth ready-to-drink (RTD) canned cocktail in its lineup. Meet the new Gin Fizz.
Gin Fizz joins the existing lineup of Vodka Soda, Classic Marg, and of course the flagship Ranch Water, also known as the “unofficial cocktail of West Texas.” All of the RTDs are made with real spirits, and RancH2O promises that more flavors are on the horizon.
The new addition contains a hint of lime, and a surprising pop of ginger. The beverage company formulated its own gin to pair perfectly with the fizz. The Dallas Morning News describes it as “a lemon-lime flavor reminiscent of Sprite — minus the syrupy sweetness.”
The Texas media outlet pointed out that “ready-to-drink cocktails and hard seltzers comprise the fastest-growing alcoholic beverage category in the US.”
Within that category, gin drinks are also on the rise. While the spirit itself can be controversial, thanks to its strongly distinct taste, RancH2O (pronounced Ranch Two Oh, in case you were wondering) set out to create a gin drink with mass appeal.
“I realized during my research that many people think they don’t like gin because some gins have a strong juniper berry flavor,” owner and CEO Amelia Lettieri told the Dallas Morning News. “So we dialed back the juniper flavor and added a little note of ginger that pairs so well with the [cocktail’s] lime flavor.”
The cocktails contain 150 calories per 12 ounce can and 7% ABV, minus the Classic Marg, which has 6.5% – still slightly above the average hard seltzer (and less sugar than a traditional margarita).
RancH2O was launched in October of 2020 through a distribution deal with Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits. It is currently available throughout Texas and New Mexico, with additional distribution planned. The company’s name is a play on Ranch and H2O, or Ranch Water. The iconic Texas cocktail is traditionally made with tequila, lime juice, and the Mexican mineral water Topo Chico.
Over the past 18 months, Ranch Water has become a hit among RTD consumers. RancH2O very aptly describes it as “Texas’ version of a skinny margarita.”
With a slogan of “kick back and stay a while,” RancH2O’s mission is “to provide a real cocktail experience in a convenient package without any question marks. No hidden agenda. Just a lot of refreshment with a bit of Texas sincerity.”
“Just like its original predecessor, our cocktails use real liquor – tequila, vodka, and gin – and proof is in the proof! We are proud of our 6.5% to 7.0% ABV. You can taste the difference, and canned convenience means nothing if it doesn’t taste great,” said Lettieri.
“Consumers today want convenience, shareability, and portability, and we’re committed to making RancH2O bigger than Texas.”
The RTDs are sold in four packs of standard 12 ounce cans, with a suggested retail price of $13.99 to $15.99 each. We can’t wait for this Texas delicacy to reach the rest of the US.
