Belching Beaver launches real fruit hard seltzers in Ardagh cans.

San Diego’s award winning craft brewery Belching Beaver just announced an exciting addition to its lineup: a hard seltzer made from real fruit.

Belching Beaver’s hard seltzer is available in three inaugural flavors: Passion Fruit & Guava, Pineapple & Mango, and Raspberry & Blackberry, the latter of which is a perfectly ripe flavor combination for fall.

Each 12 ounce can contains 110 calories, two grams of carbs, and 5.5 percent ABV. The brewery is particularly proud that they were able to create such a unique, natural flavor while retaining the lower sugar, carb, and calorie counts that consumers have come to expect from their spiked and sparkling waters.

As a result of said fruit, Belching Beaver hard seltzers have a lovely hue to them as opposed to the crystal clear color that has become the norm. For instance, the aforementioned Raspberry & Blackberry is naturally a light fuschia color. Belching Beaver acknowledges this difference proudly, promoting “real fruit, not clear fruit.”

While the hard seltzer market is indeed a crowded one, Belching Beaver believes the quality of ingredients will set it apart from the artificially-flavored competition. Brewmaster Troy Smith is excited to introduce consumers to his newest concoction.

“Our hard seltzers are absolutely unique with real fruit, real taste that consumers will recognize as something different,” said Smith. “By giving consumers the choice of real fruit in their hard seltzer, we hope to gain some traction as we build our brand in a crowded marketplace. Going forward we expect the seltzer line to be a great addition to our lineup of beers. And like we say… open the can, take a sip, close your eyes and let the fruit medley take over.”

Belching Beaver joins the growing number of breweries using high quality ingredients to make craft hard seltzers. With beer of all kinds gradually losing market share to the spiked seltzer category, many microbreweries see the transition as a necessity. In addition to helping a brewery stay relevant and competitive among changing consumer tastes, it’s an investment for them that requires relatively low overhead if one is already equipped to brew beer.

Since its founding in 2012, Belching Beaver has prided itself on being a truly organically grown company, concerning not only its ingredients but its finances too. The brewery rejects outside investors and carries very little debt, making hard seltzer a fiscally responsible decision for the Beaver.

CEO Tom Vogel acknowledges this strategy may not result in the absolute fastest growth possible, the company opts for sustainability. “Although our business philosophy has somewhat slowed our growth, we maintain complete ownership and decision making over our brand and company,” Vogel said.

The brewery has built its reputation by crafting unique beers and seltzers made with quality ingredients. Its first offering became a flagship beer for Belching – its Peanut Butter Milk Stout.

Along with its beer, Belching Beaver hard seltzer is available in western US markets, at major retailers including Trader Joe’s, Wal-Mart, and Whole Foods, to name a few. As its profile steadily grows, we hope to see expansion across the US soon.
