Hard seltzer has skyrocketed in popularity since White Claw first hit the market in 2016. One reason that legal-drinking-age (LDA) millennials have flocked to alcoholic bubbly water is that they represent a healthier alternative to beer, wine, and spirits; hard seltzers are typically under 100 calories per serving, gluten-free, and relatively low in sugar, carbs, and alcohol content.
In this better-for-you spirit, Matt Brewing-owned Saranac presents its new take on hard seltzer, infused with a surprising ingredient: green tea. Saranac Green Tea Spiked Seltzer is available in three fruity flavors: Lemon, Raspberry, and Peach Mango. Each can weighs in at 100 calories, 2g of carbs, and 4.5 percent alcohol by volume.
Saranac president Fred Matt thinks consumers will go for their spiked and sparkling green tea. “This whole category (hard seltzer) is driven by a consumer preference for products that are considered more wholesome, or better for you,” Matt said. “At the same time, we were looking for a way to play in this category with something different. Green tea has that ‘It’s good for you’ perception, so that’s the direction we took. We took green tea and married it with seltzer.”
Saranac Green Tea Spiked Seltzer is available throughout New York state. It’s sold in variety 12-packs and comes in a standard 12-oz. can.
Founded in 1888, Matt Brewing is the second-oldest family-owned brewery in the US. The company already has some notable experience in the hard seltzer world. It created the Spiked Seltzer brand, which was later sold to Anheuser-Busch’s InBev and renamed Bon & Viv Spiked Seltzer.
