Kansas City’s Boulevard Brewing Company is expanding its distribution footprint. The brewer announced this week that its hard seltzer line, Quirk, has officially hit shelves in the Caribbean. Boulevard is now distributing Quirk Hard Seltzer, as well as its diverse selection of beers, in Puerto Rico via Ballester Hermanos.

“We’re thrilled to be working with Ballester Hermanos to bring our line of seltzers to Puerto Rico,” insisted Bobby Dykstra, the Vice President of Sales at Duvel Moortgat USA, Boulevard’s parent company. “We know that Quirk is one of the best-tasting seltzers in the industry and look forward to expanding its distribution further into the heart of the Caribbean.”

Quirk Launched with Success

Boulevard launched Quirk Hard Seltzer in June of last year. The brand considers itself to be “infinitely enjoyable and brimming with unpredictable individuality — it’s hard seltzer with more personality.”

The seltzers come in eight intriguing, real juice flavors including Cherry Blossom & Lime, Blueberry, Lemon & Lavender, Hibiscus Lemonade, Watermelon, Salt & Lime, Grapefruit Twist, Strawberry, Lemon & Basil, Blackberry Sage and Pear Yuzu. Each 12 ounce can contains 90 calories, no more than 5 grams of carbs, less than 1 gram of sugar and an ABV of 4.2%. Quirk seltzers are all natural and gluten free.

Quirk will now be available in alcohol retail locations across Puerto Rico, packaged in individual flavor 6-packs, as well as two 12-can variety packs, which include exclusive flavors.

Quirk has had an impressive first year, selling roughly 15,000 barrels of hard seltzer in 2020 alone. “We have many exciting things in the works for Quirk,” said Dykstra. “This expansion is just one. We look forward to continuing our motto of ‘Quirk hard, play hard’ in Puerto Rico and beyond.”

The brand was trialed by Panera Bread stores in Kansas City markets last year.

Quirk isn’t Boulevard’s first foray into Beyond Beer territory. In 2019 the company launched Fling, a line of spirit-based RTD canned cocktails. The brand states, “These all-natural, spirit-based, ready-to-drink craft cocktails go where you go. Crisp, refreshing and crafted with care, they’re ready for any adventure.”

Fling’s flavor lineup includes Blood Orange Vodka Soda (5% ABV), Margarita (9% ABV), Mai Tai (8% ABV), Whiskey Mule (9% ABV), Mojito (5% ABV), Gin & Tonic (5.9% ABV) and the newest addition, a limited release Vodka Lemonade (5% ABV), which was introduced last month. All varieties are available in 4-packs of individual flavors. The company recently launched a mix pack as well.

Boulevard Brewing was founded by John McDonald in 1989. It has grown to become the Midwest’s largest specialty brewery. Boulevard features a wide array of year-round, seasonal and limited release beer offerings including its Unfiltered Wheat, which is the best-selling craft beer in the Midwest.

Boulevard promises, “As experts in the fine art of flavor, we’ve stepped out of our sandbox, pushing boundaries and exploring new territory in a drive to deliver the best and most interesting adult beverages.”

Beyond Puerto Rico, Boulevard is also available in 41 states and 11 countries including Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Fans are excited to see Boulevard grow into Puerto Rico and the Caribbean with Quirk Hard Seltzer.
