Earth Day is Thursday, April 22, and Coors Seltzer Canada needs volunteers to help them in their mission to conserve and protect Canada’s waters.

After an exhausting and monotonous year of quarantining alone…or worse, with family, never-ending virtual Zoom meetings and being stuck in the house forever, Coors has devised a way to volunteer that requires just about as much effort as most of us are able to muster these days.

The beverage brand, in partnership with Change the Course, is asking Canadians to take a pledge to skip their morning shower and go off-camera all day. Forgoing a five minute shower saves an average of 100 liters of water and, let’s be honest, most people shower for much longer than five minutes. In fact, the CDC reported that the average length of a shower is closer to eight minutes.

“Our current reality has made it difficult to get out and volunteer, and we know Canadians are exhausted from the pressures of this camera-ready world,” said Coors Seltzer Brand Manager Ava Gladman,  “As the brand who is on a mission to make giving back refreshingly easy, let’s take this pledge for the waters and enjoy peak comfort while doing it.”

Folks who really want to make the most of this “volunteer” opportunity should skip their shower and grab a refreshing Coors Seltzer…don’t worry, your camera’s turned off, your boss can’t see you. This is not the brand’s first time partnering with Change the Course. Each 12 pack of Coors Seltzer sold since their inception has helped to restore 1,000 liters of Canada’s waters.

According to their website, Change the Course “brings together corporations, conservation organizations, and the public to raise awareness about freshwater, reduce water footprints, and ensure clean and reliable water for rivers, commerce, and communities.” To date, they’ve supported 111 water stewardship projects across Canada, the US and Mexico. There’s much work to be done as the World Economic Forum has listed water crises as one of the top 5 global threats.

Coors Seltzer is asking fans to make their pledges public by going to the company’s Instagram page, @coorslightcanada, and sharing a pledge image in their stories, tagging Coors’ handle and #coorsseltzervolunteer. This step is arguably the one that requires the most effort, so Coors Seltzer is thanking fans who take the pledge with a special gift.

Followers of the company’s Instagram page are excited to “volunteer.” Some seem overly committed to the mission, enthusiastically commenting things like, “Way ahead of ya! #EarthYear #NoShowerClub” or “I took the pledge and [I] am willing to extend it to the full week[.] I’m not going anywhere anyway…”

Coors Seltzer launched in 2020 and comes in flavors like Black Cherry, Mango, Lemon Lime and Grapefruit. Each 12 ounce can contains 90 calories, 2 grams of carbs, 2 grams of sugar and an ABV of 4.5%.

Coors Seltzer Canada and Change the Course attest that pledging to sacrifice a shower on Earth Day is an easy way to make a difference with minimal effort.
