Dogfish Head Distilling Co., a unit of Boston Beer Co (NYSE: SAM), is expanding its line of culinary-crafted canned cocktails with the addition of two new varieties, Blood Orange & Mango Vodka Crush and Lemon & Lime Gin Crush. Dogfish Head’s ready-to-drink (RTD) additions are now available alongside its existing varieties in alcohol retail locations nationwide.
“Inspired by the sun, surf and beaches of Dogfish Head’s seaside home, these new Canned Cocktail recipes are our off-centered take on the area’s most popular – and most refreshing – cocktail, ‘The Crush,’ which is a simply-made combination of spirits and freshly-pressed juice obtained by ‘crush’-ing the fruit with a hand-powered press,” stated Sam Calagione, Dogfish Head Founder and Brewer.
Dogfish Head describes its RTD Blood Orange & Mango Vodka Crush cocktail as “light, refreshing and bursting with juicy flavor.” The premium canned cocktail is made with the company’s own brand of vodka distilled with real fruit and then expertly mixed with “crushed” fruit juices.
The Lemon & Lime Gin Crush is also made with real spirits and real fruit. The RTD beverage features Dogfish Head Distilling Co.’s own gin as well as fresh lemon and lime juices and a hint of basil. The ingredients are blended together to create “a deliciously citrusy and herbaceous sipper.”
With its new additions, Dogfish Head is now home to five canned cocktails. Earlier this year the brand debuted its RTD lineup in three unique flavors including Strawberry & Honeyberry Vodka Lemonade, Cherry Bergamot Whiskey Sour, and Blueberry Shrub Vodka Soda. The latter earned the coveted “Best-In-Show” title in the RTD category at the 2020 L.A. Spirits Awards. All of the company’s canned cocktails contain an ABV of 7%. Packaging for the new cocktails boasts that there are “2 full proof shots in every can.” The RTD beverages are currently sold in 4-can packs of individual flavors.
“Like the original, our Blood Orange & Mango Vodka Crush and Lemon & Lime Gin Crush combine thoughtfully crafted spirits with real fruit juices, but we make the magic happen without the equipment or the hassle, allowing you to enjoy this favorite straight from the fridge or toss it into a cooler and take it along on your next off-centered adventure,” Calagione explained.
Dogfish Head, which was founded in 1995, is not new to spirits or the RTD category. The company may be known for its ever expanding beer portfolio, but it also has an almost 20 year history of distillation. According to Calagione, “A lot of folks don’t realize it, but Dogfish Head has been distilling spirits for about two decades, and we actually released our first ready-to-drink bottled cocktail back in 2017.” The company currently crafts a diverse selection of bottled cocktails and spirits including several varieties of vodka, whiskey and gin, as well as a brandy, a rum and a coffee liqueur.
Calagione and his team at Dogfish Head are passionate about creating exciting RTD offerings, “Just like our award-winning spirits, our Canned Cocktails were born from blissfully inefficient recipes, the overactive imaginations of our uber talented co-workers, and a distinct distilling process centered around innovation and boundless creativity.”
