BarBox, the ready-to-drink (RTD) cocktail brand that invites consumers to “drink outside the box,” has launched two new flavors. The beverage company, which is based in St. Petersburg, FL, recently added Margarita and Gin Lemonade cocktail varieties to its award-winning line-up.

BarBox’s line of boxed cocktails, including its two newest offerings, are made with high quality ingredients and packaged with thoughtful, eco-friendly materials.

“We’ve been working on our product line and honing our recipes, and summer feels like the perfect time to release these new cocktails,” stated co-founder Jacob Kozuba, who started BarBox with his brother, Matthias, last year.

“Expanding our lineup just makes sense. Cocktail lovers expect variety, and we want to make it easy for BarBox enthusiasts to grab the drink that feels right in the moment,” Matthias added.

Margarita

The craft cocktails feature all natural, bartender quality ingredients. The new Margarita flavor contains real tequila, Triple Sec, lemon and lime Juice, cane sugar and agave spirit. The company’s agave spirit is “distilled in-house using two hybrid copper stills for a unique flavor profile that’s authentic to this legendary cocktail.”

The Margarita boxed cocktail is 42% proof, containing an ABV of 21%.

Gin Lemonade

As for BarBox’s Gin Lemonade, the company insists its “version of this beloved cocktail combines lemon juice and simple syrup with our small-batch gin produced in-house, which adds a fruity and floral character and brings layers of depth to this refreshing cocktail.” It is 40 proof, or an ABV of 20%.

The RTD boxed cocktails are all sold in 1.75 liter cardboard boxes, which each contain more than fourteen 4 ounce servings. BarBox also produces RTD Cosmopolitan, Negroni and Vodka Sour cocktails.

“Who doesn’t love sipping on a Margarita poolside or at a cookout during the summer? And BarBox makes imbibing more convenient and easier to share.” said Jacob.

Recyclable Packaging

BarBox Craft Cocktails are “more convenient and easier to share” thanks to their innovative packaging. “Our Bag-in-Box is part of the Smurfit Kappa Better Planet Packaging initiative and is fully recyclable and biodegradable, making it a more sustainable approach than traditional packaging options,” the brothers explained.

BarBox’s packaging is constructed from corrugated cardboard made with virgin fibers sourced from sustainably managed forests as well as fibers recovered from recycled paper. The biodegradable packaging provides a significantly lower carbon footprint than traditional glass and other less sustainable options, which use considerably more water and energy to produce.

Smurfit Kappa is one of the largest producers of paper-based packaging globally. The Smurfit Kappa Better Planet Packaging Initiative strives to create sustainable packaging options that are renewable, recyclable and biodegradable. The company designed BarBox’s Bag-in-Box packaging. They have also created environmentally-minded displays for Kellogg’s popular chip brand, Pringles, beer barrel toppers for Heineken Czech, protective packaging for Pernod Ricard’s Chivas whisky and more.

BarBox’s Bag-in-Box packaging is as easy to use as it is environmentally friendly. To enjoy the company’s line of craft cocktails simply “push to break the seal, pull to extend the spout, then remove the safety seal.”

BarBox is committed to sustainable business practices. Packaging is not the only way the company strives to lower its emissions and reduce its carbon footprint. The beverage brand also consciously reduces energy and water usage, reuses water during production, recycles, upcycles used grains to farmers in its community, and more.

Beverage brands like BarBox continue exploring new eco-conscious ways to package their drinks. Ice River Springs and Danone’s Evian, for instance, both package their water in 100% recycled PET (rPET) plastic. PET is another sustainable option for beverage brands as it is fully recyclable and its petroleum feedstocks are able to be both recaptured and reused.

As environmental sustainability becomes more urgent than ever before, we hope to see more alcohol beverage companies following in BarBox’s carbon-reduced footsteps.
