Dos Equis is expanding its line of Ranch Water Hard Seltzer with a variety pack that includes new flavors. Fresh off the heels of its successful Ranch Water launch earlier this summer, the Heineken USA brand is debuting a 12-can variety pack which, along with its original Classic Lime flavor, will include three new offerings – Blood Orange, Mango and Spicy Grapefruit.
Dos Equis Ranch Water Hard Seltzer is “Inspired by the Classic West Texas Refreshment” and “made for those bone-dry summer days.” The Ranch Water Cocktail’s origin story is unknown but it is thought to have first been concocted decades ago by West Texas ranchers. The cocktail traditionally features a refreshing blend of tequila, lime juice, and mineral water such as Topo Chico. Dos Equis’ Ranch Water does not contain real tequila, but it is “crafted with country soul” as well as natural flavors.
Dos Equis’ ready-to-drink (RTD) version of the iconic West Texas cocktail contains only 90 calories per 12 ounce can, 0 grams of carbs, and an ABV of 4.5%. The bubbly beverage is “naturally flavored which delivers a light, balanced taste for when regular refreshment won’t cut it.”
In addition to the 12-can variety pack, the brand’s Classic Lime flavor is available in a 6-pack of 12 ounce cans as well as single serve 24 ounce cans. The new variety pack is currently only available in Texas. However, the brand intends to expand its distribution footprint into new markets next year.
“The Dos Equis Ranch Water concept received a 93% uniqueness score in a crowded category,” stated Hannah Dray, Dos Equis’ Brand Director. “Flavored beer is growing 4.9x faster vs. unflavored beer, driven by Hard Seltzers (141.9%) and variety packs represent 62.3% of Hard Seltzer volume. Also, Ranch Water is driving 46.3% of total Hard Seltzer 6-pack growth [according to Nielsen],” explained Dray. “Despite the saturation of the Hard Seltzer category, the decision to expand Ranch Water to include flavors was an easy decision as the unique proposition of the product promises great potential in the market.”
Dos Equis might be new to Ranch Water, but the brand is no novice when it comes to alcoholic beverages. Wilhelm Hasse founded Moctezuma Brewery in Veracruz, MX in 1890. Soon after Moctezuma’s founding, the German-born brewer began producing Siglo XX, a beer which would later be known as Dos Equis Ambar.
The Mexican beer brand, which is imported into the US by Heineken, now crafts a diverse selection of products such as Dos Equis Ambar, Dos Equis Lager, and Dos Equis Lime & Salt, which comes in several flavors including Watermelon, Cucumber and Pineapple.
Heineken USA will support the launch of its new Dos Equis Ranch Water variety pack with advertisements on multiple platforms including radio and streaming audio, as well as social media, digital, e-commerce and paid searches. Marketing efforts will also feature on and off-premise displays, cooler decals, elliptical cans, shelf wobblers and more.
