One of the biggest causes of the dramatic rise in popularity hard seltzer has experienced in recent years is its purported health benefits over other alcoholic beverage options. Health claims aside, a niche market within the hard seltzer market has emerged for extremely low-calorie hard seltzer options. The following are existing brands which offer a hard seltzer option with low calories or less calories per serving.
Wild Basin Boozy Sparkling Water from Oskar Blues Brewery is a hard seltzer with 5% alcohol by volume, which is about average among all hard seltzers. It’s an equivalent alcohol content to many light bears. It offers a calorie per ounce level of 8.33 calories per fluid ounce. One benefit it has over some competitors is that it only has 1g of carbs per can, and it has no sugar.
Bon & Viv
Bon & Viv Spiked Seltzer is actually the original brand of hard seltzer. It debuted in November of 2013 under the simple name of “SpikedSeltzer”. Recently, this brand went through a refresh where much of the advertising was updated. Like Wild Basin, this hard seltzer has 0 grams of sugar. It offers just 7.5 calories per fluid ounce, which is slightly lower than Wild Basin. In every 12 ounce can of Bon & Viv Spiked Seltzer, there are just 90 calories! With this lower caloric level, there is a slight tradeoff because Bon & Viv has 4.5% alcohol by volume compared to the 5% of Wild Basin.
Nauti Hard Seltzer
A third low calorie option is New England’s Nauti Hard Seltzer, from Westminster, Mass. This one has 4.5% alcohol by volume of Bon & Viv while still maintaining the 100 calories of Wild Basin. Additionally, this brand has only 4 grams of carbs and 2 grams of sugar per can.
